The SHS runs a small grant funding scheme, using income generated from our journal to support new research in social and cultural history. We were delighted to receive a very large number of high quality submissions in the last round – although this made the panel’s decision very hard indeed.
To maximise our impact, we have tried to support as many fundable projects as possible by making partial awards. The funded projects were:
- Barnabas Balint for Animals and the Holocaust workshop
- Cath Feely or ‘The Empire shop window’: Derby at the British Empire Exhibition 1924 and the Museum of Making
- Claudia Soares for ‘Children’s Worlds through time’ the Children’s History Society annual conference at Newcastle
- Jackie Clarke for a Gender, family and deindustrialisation conference in Glasgow
- Jodie Burkett for research assistance to support a project on international students in post-imperial Britain
- Matthew Hurst for a postgraduate-led conference ‘Braving the tides: Chinese individuals navigating social change’
- Niamh Hanrahan for and ECR workshop ‘Mapping the Holocaust’
- Olivia Formby for a postgraduate workshop on ‘Age and Health, 1500-1800’
- Ruth Davidson for a workshop to celebrate Pat Thane
- Simon Morgan for ‘The Radical North’, a symposium to celebrate Malcolm Chase
- Tosh Warwick for research assistance to support a project on Britain’s lost football grounds
We would like to congratulate all those who have been awarded funding and encourage members to apply or reapply in the October round where appropriate.
