Conference Costing FAQ
Q. Who is able to attend the conference?
We require individuals to become members of the Society before they are able to attend our Annual Conference. Our standard membership rate costs £45. There is a reduced rate of rate of £15 for Postgraduate Students and unwaged Early Career Researchers. As well as allowing you to book on the conference, all these rates entitle you receive a copies of our journal Cultural and Social History as well as gain the benefits listed here.
If you’re retired you can also opt for a reduced rate of £15 but please note that this is a non-subscribing rate and you will therefore not be eligible to receive copies of the Journal. Membership lasts for one calendar year at which point it can be renewed.
Apart from that anyone is welcome to attend, whether you’re speaking or whether you just want to come along.
Q. How much does the conference cost?
In addition to paying for membership, all people attending the conference are required to pay a conference fee. The price of this fee varies depending on whether or not you are a postgraduate student, and depending how many days of the conference you will be attending. These costs are as follows:
Postgraduate 1-day rate: £45
Postgraduate 2 -day rate: £90
Postgraduate full conference rate: £120
Standard 1-day rate: £85
Standard 2-day rate: £130
Standard full conference rate: £160
Q. What do these costs include?
The conference costs include attendance at the conference, teas/coffees, lunches, and use of conference facilities. They do not include other meals or accommodation.
Q. How much does accommodation cost?
There are several rooms available for booking at the University of Keele, but further details regarding booking accommodation and prices will be circulated once conference registration opens on the 9th March.
Q. What about evening meals?
While evening meals are not provided by the conference there are two conference dinners which those attending may wish to come along to. The first on the evening of Monday 11th and is a buffet. Attendance at this meal costs £16. The second will be held on Tuesday 12th. This will be a special four-course Gala Dinner held at Keele Hall between 19:30-21:00 and costs £36.50. There is only a limited number of spaces at this event (160) so those wishing to attend are advised to book early.
Q. When can I register?
Registration is initially open from the 9th March until the 20th April. Thereafter you will still be able to register right up until 11th May but doing so will incur a late fee of £20. We cannot accept any registrations after the 11th May.
