Event Details

  • Event date: 17/09/2025 – 19/09/2025
  • Venue: Berlin
  • CFP Deadline: 11/05/2025

Has the Second World War ever truly ended? Eighty years after the last gunfire fell silent, the legacies of WWII remain deeply etched in Europe’s landscapes, languages, and collective consciousness. As the last generation of eyewitnesses fades, the challenge of remembering — and interpreting — this global conflict becomes ever more pressing. The 15th edition of the ‘Genealogies of Memory’ conference, titled ‘Remnants, Memories and Narratives Revisited’, invites scholars, researchers, and memory practitioners to Berlin from 17 to 19 September 2025 to explore this enduring presence of war in both material form and cultural imagination. More information can be found at Genealogies of Memory 2025.

Researchers from across disciplines — including history, sociology, anthropology, political science, art history, literature, psychology, law, and cultural studies — are invited to submit proposals. Comparative and interdisciplinary perspectives are especially welcome.

Application deadline: 11 May 2025
Submissions should include:

• Short bio (max. 200 words)
