CfP Extended for UCU Strike

The Social History Society champions the pursuit of social and cultural history in research, teaching and dissemination.

While our membership extends well beyond Higher Educational Institutions, many of our members are academic historians, early career researchers or doctoral students. A proportion of those who are also members of the University and College Union (UCU) are due to go on strike over two separate legal disputes relating to pensions and working conditions.

The Social History Society has long argued against the erosion of the conditions of academic employment. We know that many of our members face significant insecurity and believe that universities should value the collective contribution made by individual researchers, teachers and administrators. We hope that this dispute will be speedily resolved.

In recognition of these circumstances, the Social History Society has decided to extend the call for papers for our 2020 annual conference until 18 December 2019 to give additional time for striking members to submit.
