In May, the Social History Society redirected funding to provide short-term support to help our community of social and cultural historians respond to COVID-19.
The scheme was opened to postgraduate researchers registered at a UK university, early career scholars (within three years of viva date), independent scholars and those working outside higher education institutions.
We received many more applications than we could fund. Together, they painfully highlighted the disruption caused by COVID-19 and the detrimental impact for historical scholarship.
Although we were not able to provide funding in every case, we are proud that we have been able to support twelve of our members at this difficult time.
We will review our funding schemes again in autumn.
Our ability to provide additional support rests with our members. As a membership society, we depend upon membership fees to provide grants, award prizes and maintain our digital presence. If you are not a member, please do consider joining us.
