The SHS organises an annual prize to celebrate and showcase the research conducted by our postgraduate members.
This year’s prize was for the best blog written for our website.
The winner is Beckie Rutherford, who is completing her PhD at the University of Warwick. Beckie’s blog – ‘We moved together, we breathed together’: disabled women on stage in 1980s Britain’ – is drawn from her research on women’s involvement in disability rights organisations in the last quarter of the twentieth century.
The blog was praised by our judging panel for using a compelling case study to explore wider themes of disability, gender and culture. The panel noted that it left both with a desire to see the play and read more of Beckie’s research.
This year’s runner up was Natasha Preger, who is completing a PhD at King’s College London, for her blog ‘Always at Work? Oh to be a Post Office Horse’ which will be published next week.
The standard of this year’s entries was incredibly high and the SHS look forward to reading more of Beckie and Natasha’s work in future.
