Our wonderful PGR Reps, Aayushi Gupta and Louise Bell, are launching a new series of Work-in-Progress sessions – informal, supportive online spaces for postgraduates to share their research and receive constructive feedback from peers.

These sessions are intentionally flexible in format. You might present a draft conference paper, test out new ideas, discuss methodological challenges, workshop a source or case study, or simply talk through something you’re currently grappling with. Think of it as a crit session: one person shares their work, and the group offers thoughtful, constructive responses in a friendly and collaborative environment.

With the SHS Annual Conference approaching, these sessions aim to provide a low-pressure space to refine papers, develop arguments, and gain confidence in presenting work-in-progress.

We plan to meet monthly (the last Friday of each month) via Zoom. Feel free to join with a glass of wine, a cup of tea, or whatever you prefer – the aim is to create a relaxed and collegial atmosphere alongside serious discussion.

All postgraduate researchers working in or around social history are very welcome, whether you would like to present or simply attend and contribute to the conversation.
